Firearms Training

Firearms Training: Citizens will learn Classroom and Range Instruction:

Three (3) Prong Approach:

1. Universal Safety Principles

2. Fundamentals of Shooting:

(a) Stance

(b) Proper Grip

(c) Sight Alignment

(d) Sight Picture

(e) Articulation of the Trigger

3. Presentation:

Students will shoot Live-Fire utilizing a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The purpose of this low caliber firearm is that the shooter will not be distracted by a larger caliber firearm and the shooter can now spend more time concentrating on the fundamentals of shooting.

Note: This is a Two (2) Hour Program, One (1) Hour Classroom Lecture and Practical Exercises utilizing a Training Pistol, and One (1) Hour Live-Fire Shooting.

Pepper Spray: Citizens will identify the effects of pepper spray, the types of delivery systems, how to use pepper spray, identify first aid procedures, and some history of pepper spray.


Self Defense

Additional Courses

Self-Defense and Personal Safety: Citizens will learn counteracting skills to defend themselves including a punch, edge fist, palm-heel strike, knee strike, front kick, and a few others. Citizens will learn that you must take away opportunity from the criminal by identifying and knowing your surroundings. This will include parking your vehicle, walking to and from work, shopping, and recreational activities.


Women’s Self-Defense Program: There are several reasons women might want to learn self-defense. The most obvious reason is that you want to be prepared to defend yourself or family if you’re ever in imminent or immediate danger. A study conducted by the Department of Justice and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that 1 in 6 women had experienced a sexual assault or attempted sexual assault. It is all about learning how to defend yourself and think clearly in very intense situations. It is about gaining the confidence to better control situations that might otherwise be completely outside of your control.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

2. Seven Tools of Defense:

(a) Eye Jab

(b) Oblique Kick

(c) Ear Slap

(d) Knee Strike

(e) Head Butt

(f) Elbow Strike

(g) The Bite

Women’s Self-Defense Program

Draw From Concealment Program skills include the following:

  1. Proper Stance / Grip

  2. Holster Placement

  3. Five (5) Point Draw (including not only drawing and presenting the weapon efficiently, but other weapon positions predicted in the situation or circumstance

  4. Drawing weapon, employing and presenting with one / two hands

  5. Draw weapon with garment (both one / two hands)

  6. Drawing weapon with jacket garment (both one / two hands)

  7. Dry fire exercises (transitioning from strong to support hand)

  8. Simulations training (drawing from seating position (i.e. restaurant, vehicle*, etc.) *techniques shooting inside the vehicle

TESTING: Students must pass a proficiency test to progress to the live fire portion of the training. Exception at end of course: Students will be able to draw their weapons efficiently from concealment wearing various types of garments when concealing their firearms.

Time Commitment: Three (3) hour classroom and one (1) hour live fire. Maximum of five (5) students accepted.

Equipment Needed: 1) holster for concealment (only rigid or molded hip / waistline holsters will be allowed for the class, either inside or outside the waistband. No other holster types allowed. 2) Wear a shirt that will conceal and cover weapons. 3) Jacket with zipper or button. 3) Car keys, phone, etc. (everyday items that can be kept in jacket pockets to add weight). 4) 100 rounds. 5) Eye and ear protection (eletronic ear protection helpful but not required)
